Joseph,

I left a response today to your critique of Ken Wilber on Spiritual Critiques.

I believe one can definitely be a both a "contemplative" mystic and an "active" mystic. If one is either or, it could be a life style choice (to use a current phrase) based on one's life situation and one's specific calling. The cloistered types may can be called to a life of prayer that can have impact beyond the cloistered walls. I suspect that there are even more types of mystics than two: the artistic, musical, choreographical, mathematical, philosophical, scientific, peace-making, etc. Where does it stop?
